They are bad ass !! Wow ! Good score. I should look more often. Once a month or so is about all I do. unreal, 100 bucks for a fully operational v65 magna besides carb issues costing 500 bucks or so to fix from a shop, what a steal. with such low miles of 2500 would assume carbs not hardly operational. When looking for one last year, I looked at 5 v65 magnas and the one in the most mint condition with lowest mileage under 25K miles drove the worst out of the ones having 40-70K miles on them. It was slower than my 250cc scooter would NOT speed up worth crap. Body was near mint, but not for same price willing to spend same 1600 bucks or so since unless can fix all 4 carbs, etc. yourself, would be over a 2K bike to get it running decent. I did not want to offer less than his 1600 or so asking price, so just passed on it unfortunately since had my hopes up it ran well and did not. PLus, when test drove it, the speedo cable broke, easy fix, but did inform the owner when test riding the speedo needle stopped working. And yes, the 1983 v65 magnas are quicker than the 1984 and 1985 v65 magnas I drove, and the 1983's both had the most mileage between 50-60K miles on each and wicked fast, but also worst body shape wise starting to rust all over in spots. To find one in mint condition and great running is VERY rare and if you find one, owners think they are still worth 3800 bucks which is what they were selling for used in 1988 with say 10K miles on them. craigslist is worth checking out if not daily, for sure weekly. Just yesterday I picked up for my kids fjr1300 an additional mint condition yamaha OEM factory left side hardbag matching color, etc. for only 50 bucks (new is 200 each side at yamaha dealer) plus a factory stock height yamaha windshield for 40 bucks looked brand new as well. Yah, I drove out of my way 1 hour (70 miles) one way to go get them, but if needed or even if not, if going to sell the cycle, for example, for 100 bucks or so will get that out of both when times comes selling the cycle. ONE thing I did not like is the guy NEVER responded if 19" height or not since knew the stock height was 17 inches. Lo and behold it was ONLY 17 inch height not the taller touring yamaha shield, but still bought it, but have to KEEP asking BEFORE driving to make sure is EXACTLY what you want. For 40 bucks still bought it though even though most go 19 inch widnshield height. I did not like though that he never responded him probably thinking I would not buy if 17 vs. 19 inch height. Craigslist is awesome to sell stuff on as well as long as you advertise reasonably priced, it will sell 9 times out of 10 within a month. Even sold a 1980's Raleigh mint condition rarely used bike my wife had growing up was like 400 bucks new for 80 bucks. Most nowadays would not buy such an old bike liking newer looks, but much like our Valks, OLD school styling is out there for someone to admire and appreciate it.

the ad also said the I/S seat is a fatty while std./tourer seat is skinnier.
Is that true? I though not...

Here’s one for those who like to tinker and possibly do a full resto. A ‘75 Wing. https://southjersey.craigslist.org/mpo/d/1975-honda-goldwing-clear/6746701912.html1975 Honda Goldwing Clear TITLE touring Gold Wing - $400 “1975 first year of the Goldwing . Bike does not Run and has 9,803 miles on it. This bike has a clear title in my name that was transferred to me 3 months ago. but I do not have the keys. I bought this bike from a gentleman in Rock hall , Maryland last January. The bike was purchased because it had a clear title . I never intended to purchase the bike to restore it. I have seen these bikes get radically modified . Some look outstanding but I like the original look. I was told the bike was stored away in the late 90's when it developed a leaky fuel pump. I have both the old pump and new one that will go with the sale of the bike. I no longer need the title for this bike due to finding my relatives title for their bike.”

Standard seat sets and Interstate seats are interchangeable. They are? Thought the 1 piece interstate seat was longer and would not match the bolt hole in the rear fender. They were designed to slide into that catch on the trunk. When i supervalked my IS i ran into this problem with the stock seat and with a corbin 1 piece. Went with a 2 piece until i bought my ultimates.

My IS seat was not compatible with standard or tourer, had no tab to be able to bolt it to the rear fender. Instead a tab that slid into a slot. When I changed it I did but a two peice on the IS,but the IS seat in no way would work on a standard.

You are right about the seats IS on a tourer or standard. You can fab from metal a goose neck that bolts to the fender and make a boxed end for the seat to slip into. Very simple, that is what I built on my tourer. I have a Russell from an IS on it I had made for my old IS.

I did the same thing for a friend. Worked great.

they still are in the top 20 fastest by today''s standards, i think anyways. Personal preference, but I like the magna typical classic cruiser look over the sabre. One issue I see in buying a 35 year old bike is not only availability of parts, but more so the more and more parts you will have to put into it sooner rather than later.

why? 500 shadow is pretty small and slow. Have heard though, not from riding one by my own personal experience though, that the 500 magna's for what they were being much smaller cc displacement were pretty darn quick for their size. I have driven a 1986 honda shadow 1100cc and no slouch either and bigger framed but not even close to the 1983 (fastest first year that I know vs. 84-86 years) v65 magnas. Way, way ahead of their time for sure!!!

I was thinking/hoping that like my old 1100 Shadow was the same size frame as the 750, that the 500/700 would also be the same. This would be a nice little cafe' bike for someone to keep ridding during the off season.

While it's true it doesn't have the tab to bolt down as does the Standard pillion it's not needed. The Standard pillion requires it because it does use the slot on the fender. If you're concerned about holding down the back of the Interstate saddle you can use the strap that fits over the Interstate seat. They are interchangeable.

that 2007 goldwing above just posted hard to tell if scam the mileage of 172K or so makes it not worth as much as most by far so the price is probably reasonable, not a scam. But, the 2 pics seem to be different colored bikes, one gray, one black, but the shading/lighting may do that as well in each pic, hard to tell?
I have seen higher mileage say 2005 on up goldwings say 120K miles on up go for under 5K

I got a reply back, sorta.
5 pictures. No words, so I expect he thinks I'm scamming him.
If I hadn't just bought another car, BMW 02' 330Ci convertible, I would have the $ to buy this bike.
Aftermarket items on it, I think its a good price, at lease locally. $5K USD. I've not seen lower priced 01' + GW yet, but also haven't been looking. I want a pre 95' GL1500 cheap, so I can have something to ride during the winter months.

there was this summer a local 15 miles away on the cheap a 1993-1995 honda goldwing nice dark green metallic very good shape under 30K miles fully loaded asking 3K I was thinking of purchasing. I thought it was a pretty good deal said OBO so mighta gotten it for 2700 or so and had newer tires on it as well, fully loaded up. I drove by it dozens of times but never stopped after work and then one day a few weeks later it was GONE, sold!. OH well, have enough for now. They are old school looking sort of cumbesome and plasticy all over, but run forever much like our 1500 valks do.

Craigslist Deal of the Week
Thought I would thank Dave for starting this thread. Have been following it closely watching for the right Tourer or Standard to replace my crashed fat lady. I plan on getting back on two wheels as soon as I can. Almost pulled the trigger on a 98 fat girl but then the next round of medical bills came in the mail. Gotta pay them first. Well, that and the fact that I couldn't reach or use the clutch yet......... Keep those good deals coming, I'll pick one up eventually. Rams

Prices and how long the ads remain with the bike for sale seems to relate to color combos as much as year and mileage. No doubt IMHO that condition and price are the biggest factors but color is right up there in importance to buyers. Rams

yah, thanks Dave for starting this thread seeing all these good deals I have NO room for. I have my eyes on a non-Valk on craigslist but not sharing it for someone might snatch it up on me. Problem is BAD time to drive it home 6 hour drive or so one way or even test drive it and finding the time to go see it. If it was closer say within 1-2 hour drive, it may be MINE by now!!
