Started planning my route for the 1st Annual Southern Valkyrie Madness Ride . One of my stops will be at the memorial for the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash site. More info to come

I'm told there's some mighty nice scenery and some good roads between Hattiesburg and that crash site.   Thanks for making the effort to do this David.   cooldude

EXCELLENT!  Glad you're both coming...…………

Did you indicate on the poll that you're definitely coming?    We're trying to determine the amount of BBQ we need to have prepared.

I would also like to remind all interested parties that it's always a blast to ride with our fellow Valkyrie brothers and sisters on such journeys.   It's also nice to have that someone that can help out if a problem arises.   It could be something serious or something as little as running out of fuel but, it's always nice to have another biker ride along if for no other reason than when you pull in for gas, there are multiple Valkyries to share the spot light and more than one to respond to what that thing you're riding is.  Wink   Or, did you put all that chrome on yourself?   How many cylinders does that thing have?    You all know the way it goes.   2funny

So Far it looks like I'll be attending solo, so if any one wants to share a room, give me a holler.

UPDATE:  Samoan Rich contacted me and has said he will share the room, so it is spoken for.

Most of the Cool Kids are trying to come.

Ride Captains are meeting soon to work out different routes and we're working on what's being provided for dinner.   BBQ is definitely on the menu.

As a reminder, everyone please vote in the poll if you're coming and joining us in our dinner plans.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to change a vote in the poll.   We will have a signup page eventually and I will edit my original posting when that occurs.   Thanks for your patience and looking forward to seeing you.

I axed the Binkster when I reserved my room, I believe his son is visiting in TN that weekend, otherwise he'd be there.

Has anyone been able to contact the hotel lately?  I've tried 5 times today, and the phone just rings for about a minute and then I get a busy signal.  I'm just trying to confirm what type of room they are holding for me.  The contact info i was using is:

Red Lion Inn
4301 Hardy St. Hattiesburg, MS 39402

Just called, two rings and got an answer.   Told her of your issue, she said she could not explain it.
Regardless, the phone number is valid.   Sorry you're having a hard time getting through.   Next year we'll look at other venues more closely.

Thought it was time to interject some riding related posts. I am going to make a decision this week about rolling down for this gathering. More than likely it will be on four wheels rather than two, even though my new Avon Cobra came in today! I need some distraction from 4 years of close support grandparenting and remodeling two homes over the past 2 years plus. The wife hasn’t had a break either but not sure this would be her cup of tea, so to speak!

So two cataract surgeries and one minor skin surgery this month and a couple more doc appointments in March should wrap me up for a while. Been thinking about another bike too but just haven’t landed on one yet, and may not until my girl of the last 20 years is humming again.

John,
Obviously, I'm hoping you're able to make it.   Been quite a while since we last visited.
But, take care of your medical needs first.   Whether I like admitting it or not, there are a few things more important than riding, even in a four wheeled cage.

If you haven't already responded to the poll, please do so when you make that decision.   Be safe out there.   cooldude

The Hattiesburg Gang is meeting today (noon) to discuss the Southern Valkyrie Madness event.   Planning, coordinating and presenting ideas.

Anyone with suggestions or things they'd like to see, do or whatever, please post it here.   This is as much your event as it is ours.   We really want everyone to come and have a great time.

(DDT, we're meeting at a renowned BBQ restaurant in Hattiesburg)   2funny

I'll be checking back about 11:30 to see what suggestions may be brought up.

We had our meeting and it was a good one.
The menu was set, DDT won't be disappointed.  Wink
The others agreed to as to who was doing what, when and such things.
This should be a fine and fun event.
I learned a few things about the ramifications of hosting such a ride/event.

We have determined that we will not have an official ride with Ride Captains.

This will be a Strictly Social Event due to implied legal liability issues.   No official rides.

We will have some local riders going a few different directions to locations that don't mind if others want to follow.  I will be changing the initial thread to ensure anyone that comes knows we are not sponsoring a ride.

Looking forward to seeing, kicking tires and hearing all those lies other folks tell.   I (personally) will only tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth (while in the parking lot).  Wink

Gents and Ladies,
Here's a question for everyone.

The menu has been set for our BBQ at the Red Lion Inn.   I think everyone (especially Bruce) will be happy with it.   But, I have been approached about providing an additional option and I'm curious as to how many would enjoy the option.

How many of you would enjoy or partake of (what I know as Crawdads) of Crawfish?

If enough folks want this option, I'm willing to kick that in as an option.  If only a few, we'll for go that option but, if several folks wish to partake, I'll see what I can do.

Being honest about it, this is not something I'll partake of, where I come from, crawdads are used for  bait but, that's just me.  Wink

I'm good without crawdads, but some of the coonasses might enjoy them.  They are a lot of work for a little meat.  I prefer something you can throw on a bun or a plate and enjoy.  It's nice that you are trying to accommodate everyone.

Ron,

I've been known to ingest those 'fresh water shrimp' on many, many occasions, and I do tolerate them well. For me, though, they are more of a celebration of life and best when part of a 'crawfish boil' or similar event... complete with Cajun music and peculiar accents. I also have a limited intake capacity, and my focus this time will clearly be upon the strongly hinted at presence of BBQ... In other words, no need to provide any on my account... On the other hand, no need not to on my account either... It's just likely I won't be eating many if any at all... Really looking forward to this gathering!!!
