A beauty of an evening here in the “Great White North” 28c/82f.
Might have to grab a beer to go with this!

Tonight, enjoying some Balcones Texas Bock.... For those who are blessed enough to enjoy Shiner Bock Beer, imagine that, run through a still and distilled into a whisky.....

Yes... It is as incredible as you're imagining....

I paired that with a Perdromo 10th Anniversary Champagne cigar....

...it was a wonderful evening!

For tonight, enjoying a lovely Balvenie Doublewood 12 year old single malt scotch..... Tasty stuff, and when I can combine 3 of my favorite things (Scotch, Guns and Valkyries) makes it even better! First beverage out of one of my new VRCC drink glasses with a .30 caliber bullet embedded in the side...

that peach and apple sounds good.    I am not much liking the 100+ proof stuff so I settle for the 21 proof dr. Migillucadays (spelling?) intense apple pie.    Someone awhile ago on this board gave me also an Apple Pie drink elixir recipe made with EVERCLEAR.  That is tasty as well.

For a daily 9-10 proof drink if like wine around here there is at Aldi's grocery stores their Aldi's brand wine flavored either pineapple or peach and my kid likes pineapple but my wife loves the peach flavored one.  Is ONLY 3.50 per bottle of wine so she drinks a lot of it like a bottle per week easily.  It is seasonal though during the summer so we just bought a 12 pack case of peach wine for her at Aldis.  I guess they only put out so many in their wine rack, but if you ask for a case of 12 they may have it in the back for you.

We had a few drams at a scotch tasting I attended last night...

The surprise "Best of show" of the evening, by far, was the Usquaebach 15 Blended Malt. If you get a chance to try that one, get some dark chocolate, take a sip, and a nibble of the chocolate together. It's like a liquid Heath Bar. Incredible blending of flavors.

Had a change go sideways at work last night and had to re-migrate a ~2TB SQL DB's RDM LUNs twice after the first migration (From spinning disk SAN storage to SSD SAN storage) corrupted the database.

After that I had a few well deserved drams of one of my new go-to mid-priced Scotches - Ardbeg 5 year old Wee Beastie...

Love that stuff.... But if you're not a fan o' the peat, not the dram for you!

I found it for under $50 bucks locally. I think that's good value for Ardbeg.
Have to be in the mood for heavily peated but when I want it nothing else will do... Wink

I think I am more of a fan of the char than I am of the peet in general terms but I will have to give this a try, if for no other reason than I like the name.  Smiley

To me it's more of the "sucking on a campfire" side of the smoke, and less of the "smoking mermaid poop using old bandaids as rolling papers" iodine of a Laphroaig (And what's funny is, I love Laphroaig!)...

It is NOT shy though, being only 5 years old the phenols haven't had time to escape.

While I hate many of the Texas silly laws about liquor, at least we're not TOO over taxed, I can usually find the Wee Beastie in the $35-$40 range around here...

I have not. Like I tell my buddy, "I drink American!"  2funny I started off with the Evan Williams apple but became scare so I tried the Jim Beam apple and it sucked. I like fruit flavors and the fruits are more pronounced in the EW.

I get this for 36 bucks at Costco, the bourbon is excellent as well, I believe it's mostly rye anyway.

I like to sip a shot before I sip a shot.. then I sip 2 more.. Grin

Was lucky again today to get out for a ride, I headed west to a little hamlet called Bragg Creek. I always stop in to the liquor store because aesthetically it’s a cool place. They play vinyl there and always have John Wayne movies on the big screen. For me, that’s look for whiskey time. I came home with this today! A great winter scotch that for me goes well with cheese.

I'm looking for a combo like that.

The way most of our tastings work is the host sets a minimum, like "15 year old single malt" or somesuch, then the price of admission is you bring 1 bottle meeting the requirements, so every person there contributes a bottle.

And to encourage people to be willing to host, we also leave all remaining scotch for the host to add to their collection...

This was at a friend's house, not sure about the grill, but I messaged him, I'll let ya' know what he says....

Edit to add - He said it's a "Char Griller Double Play" that he got from Home Depot with an add on smoker box...

I've been loving everything I've gotten from Compass Box. It's a little pricy, but try the No Name 2 if you can get your hands on it....

This was my X-mas eve tipple, quite enjoyable for the price:

A couple buddies and myself had a bottle of the “no name” delivered to another buddy that just broke his leg. He said it’s mighty fine. Guess I’ll have to pick one up for myself.
