McCruise switches with a Rostra C/C?

I'm getting ready to install a Rostra on my I/S. I picked up a McCruise unit on Ebay real cheap, hoping to use the controller. But, after looking over the diagrams for both units, I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around how it would be wired. Maybe it's not possible. Has anyone been able to make this combo work?

As an alternative, I thought about just installing the McCruise. But it's an older vacuum unit off a BMW and I'm not sure it would work since the CIU is for a single cable bike. If anyone has any advice on that, I'd appreciate it.

Plan C, I'll just make my own switches for the Rostra and forget the whole thing :-\

UPDATE****

Well, it looks like I've answered my own question. From the troubleshooting guide that came with the McCruise unit, it uses internal logic to interpret voltage differences between button presses, or combination of presses. So, there's apparently no simple way to make it work. Plan C it is. Thanks to all who responded with ideas on that.

Thanks Avanti. I've read those (and every other post I could find on wiring the switches). I'll definitely be referring to those if I end up wiring in my own switches or the Rostra switch. The problem with those is I'm out of real estate on the clutch side and I don't want it on the throttle side if I can help it. That's why I was hoping to use the McCruise switch, since it's down out of the way of the other stuff I have mounted on that side.

The issue with it, at least as far as I understand it, is that the SET/RES buttons feed a single wire, whereas the Rostra has a wire to each of those. So, apparently it distinguishes those button presses in the circuitry somehow instead of separate signals for each button. The ACC/DEC function on the buttons is also reversed from the Rostra set up, but I guess that wouldn't be a big deal.

Has anybody used the cb switches to operate a cruse control? Is it even possible?

I read a thread somewhere here where someone asked about that. It sounded like it was possible. He wanted to have a cover plate made to cover the stock labels with C/C labels. It would be pretty slick. I have the CB though, so I didn't read all the details.

Hmm. I think that's a different thread than the one I saw. Too bad he didn't update how it worked out. I'd almost be willing to give up the CB to make that work. This indicator light:

and a similar Amber one mounted down by the handlebar clamp for "power on" and "engaged" would be a cool setup. I have a spare switch box. Maybe I'll dig into it and see if I can figure it out.

On the real estate issue, I just made an aluminum panel that also holds the fuel system controls/lights, and is held by the left reservoir/clutch lever clamp and sits below the satellite antenna, hovering next to the reservoir and the left speaker.  The panel is welded at this angle using the easy and cheap MAPP gas torch / aluminum filler rod method - don't need a TIG welder or MIG aluminum spool gun (though I have both).  Not in a waterproof box but I sealed up all the connectors and I avoid rain: so far it hasn't failed from the wet and have been caught in soakers.  I use Liquid Tape frequently - available at True Value among other places.

Thanks Mark. I like the way you did it, but I have one of these there for driving lights:

I just picked up a couple sealed toggle switches, though. I think I'm gonna come off the bottom of the reservoir clamp with a narrow L-bracket and mount them below the horn button.

I have built several and I always install the switch on the throttle side. I don't see why you couldn't install the mcCruise switch on the rostra. Take a look at the rostra manual it shows how to wire for a open or closed switch. Read your info on the mcCruise and see if you have an open or closed switch and wire accordingly

The CB switches are wiring in a multiplex manner that all go to the Radio.  I tried experimenting with tapping into them in a way that would trigger other things, but it's not possible without messing up the radio inputs.  Hope that helps.

That stinks, it would make nice clean switch. Would it be possible to unplug the switches with out screwing up the radio and rewire the switch for cruise control use?

I'll take a look at it again. Might require a bit of isolation circuitry so as not to interfere with the radio operations.
