As to the current wave of removals of Confederate flags, they are certainly an overreaction and they are wrong.

What is a shame is that we have allowed the people who promote white supremacist policies to influence the large number of Americans that have no connection to the flag to accept their own interpretation of what the flag stands for.

I sincerely hope this will blow over.  I truly wish the folks that waved that flag as a symbol for their own racist beliefs would have bothered to come up with their own unique emblem.

Let me tell you a little story. In Minnesota a few years ago, some knucklehead high school kids drove around the school parking lot waving a confederate flag. This happened the day of graduation. Administration, parents and the general public where highly offended. It means something different up here. Understand that. These boys were suspended immediately from school and not allowed to participate in their own graduation. Kinda harsh? Not by the majority up here. You see  the flag as representing your southern culture, we see it as hate. To us it should be a museum piece, not flown as a flag. In fact we have a confederate flag that was captured by The 1st Minnesota from South Carolina in a museum. We won't give it back. Lots of lives lost, lots of Union soldiers too.
Yes the world is changing, some won't like it.
I am a lifelong Republican, gun owner and considered very conservative by most.

So those boys were suspended and kept from their graduation for OFFENDING someone else.

Not harming anyone physically.
Not destroying property.
Not cutting out of school.
Not cheating on anything.

The boys were punished and the offended "got over it" by lunchtime.  WHAT CRAP!!!

We see that there is ALWAYS someone offended by something and you really believe that punishments should be doled out because of it?

You can't come to school dressed in a sheet and hood either, can't do it. It's about perception. Again, we all won't agree on everything.

But they didn't do anything of the sort.  You're comparing different things to each other.  That's the problem right there.  The "offended" assign their own meanings to things.  They equate apples to oranges and the rest have to agree or be punished.  

Your analogies are the real issue here.  Anyone can equate an inanimate object with something offensive if they look hard enough.  Where does the line get drawn?  And who determines where the line should be?  Hopefully not you because you're the one defending the insanity and making over-dramatical analogies.

BTW, I'm sure your little picture of the crybaby democrat, on everyone of your posts, is offensive to the democrats on the board.  Should you be punished and have all your posts removed?  Maybe suspended from posting for a while?
