As to the current wave of removals of Confederate flags, they are certainly an overreaction and they are wrong.
What is a shame is that we have allowed the people who promote white supremacist policies to influence the large number of Americans that have no connection to the flag to accept their own interpretation of what the flag stands for.
I sincerely hope this will blow over. I truly wish the folks that waved that flag as a symbol for their own racist beliefs would have bothered to come up with their own unique emblem.

Let me tell you a little story. In Minnesota a few years ago, some knucklehead high school kids drove around the school parking lot waving a confederate flag. This happened the day of graduation. Administration, parents and the general public where highly offended. It means something different up here. Understand that. These boys were suspended immediately from school and not allowed to participate in their own graduation. Kinda harsh? Not by the majority up here. You see the flag as representing your southern culture, we see it as hate. To us it should be a museum piece, not flown as a flag. In fact we have a confederate flag that was captured by The 1st Minnesota from South Carolina in a museum. We won't give it back. Lots of lives lost, lots of Union soldiers too.
Yes the world is changing, some won't like it.
I am a lifelong Republican, gun owner and considered very conservative by most.
So those boys were suspended and kept from their graduation for OFFENDING someone else. Not harming anyone physically. Not destroying property. Not cutting out of school. Not cheating on anything. The boys were punished and the offended "got over it" by lunchtime. WHAT CRAP!!! We see that there is ALWAYS someone offended by something and you really believe that punishments should be doled out because of it? You can't come to school dressed in a sheet and hood either, can't do it. It's about perception. Again, we all won't agree on everything. But they didn't do anything of the sort. You're comparing different things to each other. That's the problem right there. The "offended" assign their own meanings to things. They equate apples to oranges and the rest have to agree or be punished. Your analogies are the real issue here. Anyone can equate an inanimate object with something offensive if they look hard enough. Where does the line get drawn? And who determines where the line should be? Hopefully not you because you're the one defending the insanity and making over-dramatical analogies. BTW, I'm sure your little picture of the crybaby democrat, on everyone of your posts, is offensive to the democrats on the board. Should you be punished and have all your posts removed? Maybe suspended from posting for a while? |

PS: Just for the note of it, I could care less for what flag they want to fly.
I fought for the good old US of A and I fly that flag 24/7. Yes, it is properly lit at night.
Someone come mucking with my flag and we are going to have a serious problem. Trust me on that.

Seems they want to remove reminders so we will forget,and they can make up a new history that suits them. This not only pertains to flags or statues but anything related to "bad things" . Pretty soon the indians instead of being a proud nation will be known as the "casino indians". There was a war

Talk about not letting a crisis go to waste. How many black church's have been burned in the past week ? I think about 7. Only one that I'm aware of was attributed to lightning or something other than arson so they are being considered as hate crimes.
Humans love to over react, I suspect this will be another such time. I'm betting on that flag being banned.
The way I see it is that every time our incompetent leader opens his mouth he sets race relations back another decade.

It's already been scrubbed by the PC Police! (The photo on the left of the box with the Duke brothers with the General Lee in the background has also has the flag scrubbed off the car)  |

General Lee was the first choice to command the Union Army.
He stood with Virginia when they secedeed.
He had a long and distinguished career before the civil war. He was already a General.

That was his plantation, Arlington.
The gov at the time started burying Union soldiers there as an insult to Gen. Lee.
This is all a steaming load.

They are offering an American flag to those who turn in their flags. I'll bet that the American flags will have come from China and THAT is the REAL Problem, not the rebel flag.

As a Yankee, it sickens me....it is part of our nations history.
Keep in mind it is a knee jerk reaction by politicians, mark my words, the flag will fly again.
I feel for the families devistated by a crazed person, my prayers go with them.
For my southern brothers....in time all in time.
Hope to catch some wind with you guys next weekend.. will be riding the dragon for the first time..

All of us country boys flew the flag in HS up here in Northern Ind. Even my current GF had one one her car in southern Ind. I have one hanging in my garage ive had for over 20 yrs. Lets see them come and take it down.
