I see the thread on the Confederate Flag is locked.  We were having a very good, thoughtful discussion about it.  It was going along very well.

Then, a certain member, who I won't mention by name, Daddie-O, comes along, throwing in personal attack after personal attack.  It all goes south.

My response, instead of closing the thread, would be to delete those posts, and ban the poster.

Instead, the whole discussion is shut down, punishing those who were NOT doing anything wrong.  And, the person throwing the filth around gets his way.  Seems backwards to me.

I can understand why she locked the thread. I can only imagine why, my guess is because of one person. I have no idea why anyone would pay any attention to that person. It only encourages him.

It was interesting and I believe administration did the right thing, as it had run it's course as did the first flag thread.

It's been going on now for almost 7 years and you still have to ask why a discussion was shut down?

It has been that "club member's" and the Lib/Dem political club member's M.O. to shut down conversation by playing the race card, or the sex card, or the same-sex (including the "I think I am sex") card, etc.  They call you names in hopes of shutting down actual discussion.  We can't talk about the INDIVIDUAL who committed the crime, we have to blame an entire CULTURE for it.  Then call the entire culture racist and disparage those who defend themselves.  Have comics impart the news and make fun of them even more.  Then sit behind a computer screen and type all the misinformation and accusations to disparage fellow club members further.

Al Sharpton is famous for doing that crap here in NY.  If a kid got beat up in a neighborhood, it wasn't the other kid's (or group of kids') fault, it was the entire community's fault.  He'd get everyone riled up and then hold a rally and march on that community.  The third time he orchestrated his crap, a man died.  And the left gives him a prime time TV show so he can continue to do their dirty work by shutting real discussion down and perpetuating division and hate.

That's why the thread was locked, to shut down real discussion.  In order to be politically correct, the admins caved to the rantings of a known pot stirrer.  Works every time.

That's not really fair, G-man.

Administrating the VRCC message board is not done as a full time job and it doesn't pay well.  Truthfully, if a less than civil post gets in and people ignore or report it I'm more than willing to take it out.  Unfortunately, more often than not, folks reply with equally uncivil articulation and then to make it more involved they go to the trouble to quote the original incivility.  By the time an admin gets around to seeing it it has become a rather involves spaghetti pile.  Removing one post is fairly easy.  Removing multiples and deciding how much is too much when the back and forth has gone all over the scale takes a lot of time and effort.

I do hate to reward a misbehaver by allowing him to end an otherwise marginal discussion but the options are limited and someone's going to be pissed no matter what you do.

We've (I say we to sound insincerely inclusive) developed a bad habit of calling anything action with which we disagree politically correct.  That's bullshit.  I don't think you'll often find any of the VRCC staff driven by political correctness, but anytime someone tries his best to be fair or just gets fed up he'll be accused of being "politically correct" by someone.

It was mostly a reasonable give and take discussion.  There were a few long before the Californian got involved that jumped unreasonable, not so intelligently, and hostilely at anyone who disagreed with them.  Sometimes it's a shame those folks own keyboards.  If our friends had all just given the silent treatment to what was obviously uncalled for those items would have disappeared.

We do what we can.  there is some level of disagreement among us as to how quickly the ban should be applied.  I'm undoubtedly the most aggressive of my friends but we require an all but unanimous agreement to apply.  I have a list of about a half dozen posters that I would at least temporarily send away but it does take more than one person's assessment.

You guys know I love to jump in and stir the pot.  It is sometimes hard to resist disrupting your right wing political echo chamber.  It doesn't take very long until I am called a wide assortment of names, and the state I live in gets attacked.  Then the thread gets shut down.  Many of you find it impossible to get into a debate on ideas without personally attacking the debater.  I'm guilty of responding to those personal attacks as well.

I find it ironic that in a thread complaining about a flag that you like getting banned because it offends people, you suggest banning a poster because he offends you.

I find it laughable that you or anyone can or would defend a state that 49 other states, and probably a third of your own state finds offensive, if not for the weather.

Sorry Carl, I may not have gotten my complete point across, or maybe missed saying something.

I'm in no way admonishing, or blaming, or accusing the admins of anything.  Been here over 10 years now and know who and what yous guys do and I hope that I have not shown anything but appreciate for all that is done.

I agree that there's no way that the admins could have kept any of the threads going P E R I O D
Maybe the word "caved" was strong, but I was describing the action, not the reason for it.

My only point is the M.O. of certain folks, that force having to take that action. You acknowledged that with what I highlighted above so we're on the same page.  That's the take away from my post.

Sorry for any confusion.

Like Gary I commend the administration for the job they do in keeping this board up and running.

With that said. I was reading the flag thread. To me the banter back and forth was fairly civil. The gentleman from MN was stating his case with supporters stating theirs. Everything seamed to be going ok until the California troll stepped in with his usual hate filled diatribe and again pulled the whole thread down to his level. It only went downhill after he came into it. I swear he does this on purpose for his own personal twisted and perverted gain. The only threads he precipitates in are ones he can use to degrade and insult other members. He has NEVER been to even one Inzane. I can't remember his last positive thread or comment (was there ever one). So why do we keep a person with such a hate filled soul in this club?

I don't mean to hijack this thread but if you were in a pool and somebody crapped in it, wouldn't you want to get out?  I would.  That stuff floats and it'll sneak up on you.  I prefer the ocean to pools myself. I also like pancakes.

You people just don't get it do you.  It is your constant personal attacks that get the threads shut down.  Incapable of debating facts or opinions, you resort to name calling.  That is what gets the threads shut down.  Look at this thread.  I'm being called a troll, a bad apple, a person with a hate filled soul...etc

Should I respond with name calling?

Meathead - You and many of us here strongly disagree on many topics, and yet we are able to mostly maintain civil discourse in our discussions. However, the California Troll is not able to maintain civil discourse.

As you yourself prove, it is still possible to disagree without being disagreeable. The California Troll however doesn't appear to have any interest in meaningful discussion (Or, $Deity Forbid, discussing anything related to motorcycles at all) and only periodically swoops in, slings poop everywhere, then stands back to admire the mess he's made.

That, as I see it, is the major difference.

Serk, you may be right. But I also know there are some on here who are just as ascerbic if not more so. But nobody calls them names and such because they have the same point of reference. I don't know Daddie O except from his posts but I don't want him to be unwelcome here. And thank you for saying that I try to be civil. So, let me get this straight, that's not name calling?  Now, I understand that some people have a very short memory and believe in revisionist history, but really?!?

DaddieO is in the latter category.  I don't agree with everything you say but like Serk said at least you are civil. DaddieO is incapable of having a civil conversation. He can't help himself.

I would disagree that he is incapable of a civil conversation . I think he had many posts where he    stated his position without animosity. The problem arises when most on here disagree with him and then it devolves into crap. There are plenty on "the other side of the aisle" that have been just as uncivil if not more but most on here agree with their ideology and let it slide.

Not well said.

I don't see daddyo's post as I have him on my ignore list...however, I haven't blocked dave (yet) so I see what he quoted.

Daddyo....you don't love to stir the pot...you love to piss people off.  You call them names and insult them.  You post nothing on this board except inflammatory, insulting and derogatory posts.

I can't ever recall you posting anything positive or any post from you trying to help another member or simply providing information regarding Valkyries....just more of you trying your best to piss off the folks on this board as much as you possibly can....then you crawl back in your hole crying that everyone is being mean to you.

If you actually think that you've done nothing wrong here, then either you're too blinded by your hatred  for everyone here or you're just too damn stupid to see it.

That is exactly why you should be banned from here.

Yes there was. I was trying to point out by example how many people view that banner up north.  An opposing view. I was jumped on like I was a raging lunatic. Nobody wanted to hear what I had to say. This is a very closed minded group. I received numerous emails that weren't friendly.....far from it.  I usually find that with uneducated people, might be the case here.

BF, you state that you have Daddie O blocked and then you state that he never has a positive post. How can that be an accurate statement if you can't see his posts ?

I've got him blocked too. I didn't block him the first time he ever posted.
Perhaps he's been pounding the tech board with valuable information
that I've been missing...

Quote the posts then. And those where you were specifically called anything that can be categorized as "calling you names." (A childish term but relevant I suppose)

Make your case with proof.

Proud to be a northerner, like you.  Also proud to be what you call "uneducated".  Why do you have to resort to calling those who disagree with you "uneducated"?
