They didn't let this crisis go to waste.  They turned a multiple murder committed by a a$$hole into a north vs south thing.  They've demonized the south, which is mainly red states, and called them racists.  The south, pushed up against the wall retaliates by calling the north some names, and none of this was the issue in the first place.

Thats not exactly true. The flag issue has been contentious for decades.

OK, so where are the threads about the murderer?  All I see is thread after thread about the flag, and the south, being attacked. 

The flag may have been a minor issue, but if the murderer wasn't holding that flag we'd wouldn't even be discussing it.  That flag is has been present on this board in one form or another for as long as I've been here (so probably longer) and we've never argued about what it meant, until now. 

So, it is exactly true.   

I'm not adding anything further to this discussion or any other discussion about abolishing all remnants to this country's southern history.

I have a great time when I talk to or hang out with folks from all over this country, all because of this club.  They have never made me or my wife feel uncomfortable because of who we are or where we live.  I hate hearing and reading about MY FRIENDS being labelled and categorized.  I'm FED UP with this already.  In the last 7 years, the left/liberal/progressive machine has labelled everyone I know and love a racist, sexist, classist, or whatever the IST is that week.  So sick of it.

I'm in one of those northern liberal bastions and can carry a handgun. I don't know if that allows me to shoot back or not though, maybe not. Haven't had to find that out yet. But, I did have to jump through some hoops to get that license [ including downstate] way back when and those hoops were pretty big and not very high off the ground. In other words, it was pretty easy.
I don't have a problem with handgun licensing as long as the background checks would make some sense, which in many cases don't. As conservative as I am I guess I'm liberal enough to not have a problem with trying to keep handguns out of the hands of some nitwit.

For what it's worth, some of the founding fathers did want to limit the right to vote to those who owned land.  I think it would have been a step in the right direction.  Some of the biggest problems with democracy throughout history have been related to politicians courting the votes of those who are receiving more than from those who are contributing.

Just my humble opinion, but this happening on this forum is just a reflection of the phenomenon in society at large. Regrettable to be sure, there's no understanding occurring when people are talking at each other instead of to each other.
