A couple of weeks back I posted a photo of my Valk on top of a mountain, I only got 4 comments on the photos.

I had intended to do a full ride report on my vacation but the lack of interest put me off as it takes a lot of time and effort to post multiple pictures on here.

Dont let that stop you. Some folks look and don't say anything. I posted my Alaska trip on a blog site and got zero comments,, but 550 people looked at it.

Ditto. A lot of us enjoy the trip reports. Can't have too many of them.

Dont matter to me

I like the motorcycle posts, especially DDT's blog and Wizzard's alaska trip stuff and Smokinjoe's ride pics and history (especially the history stuff I love old stuff)
I tried a blog on my 2014 trip out west and to GOTF  it is harder that you think and I do appreciate all who post their trip stuff.

I can tell before opening a thread where its going by the title and poster.  Some I dont open some I do.

If there were a Valk only board I would be happier but I dont need to be happier as I OWN A VALKYRIE AND I RIDE IT !  I am plenty happy riding here in the Empire State  and lookin forward to the leaves changing in the next few weeks

.............Like Misfit says in his signature line.

I would not complain however if some of y'all would post to my ride thread even to say dont want to ride with you this year
or like TurnBoy has said  you ride to slow-only kidding
It would keep it on the 1st page

I agree with Robin, too much stupid crap,. But as others have said, if ya don't want to read it, don't. My guess is, we'll just stay as we are. If we were all alike we would all be riding Honda motor sickles and driving GMC pick um up trucks.
If you're gonna be stupid, ya gota be tough

Bighead

Well all I know is that I am leaving on my Phat Gurlmearly next week for 11 count em 11 days on the road :cooldude: but wont be posting any pictures about it. Ecaus when I am on a ride I RIDE and dont take pictures ( I keep them in my mind ). When I get back it will be a monday then have to work 4 days then heading to NC to be with Valkyrie Friends 8) for the FCR in beautiful Robinsville NC. Is that trip about ghe ride ? Hell NO ( ridden that area at least 100 times)it is about hanging with good folks sharing a lie or two and several cold beers. :coolsmiley:

Hey Pitbull
I saw your post and was hopeful you'd post more. In fact I was looking forward to it! I'm sorry you got turned off. I've often wondered what our Valk brothers and sisters across the waters are thinking about all this political muck in the USA, and hoping the posts on this site would settle down to a reasonable level.  My concern was that all this bad mouthing would turn others who are not involved, or those who disagree, or those have already made their minds up, off of the post.  We can all agree that this bike is the best made, I just think the political posts have gone to far, and wish we could tone down the political comments.

"general" means "all subjects" and if all you want is motorcycle stuff, it's on the tech boards.

But I'd like to see more motorcycle related stuff on the General Board.  In fact, I'll even post a picture to make this post motorcycle related

I agree wholeheartedly. My bike, and this board as an extension, help me to escape the misery of the real world. The flood of political topics here are often times both frustrating and depressing. People take extreme positions on these things, and after awhile I start to think they're idiots, and I know that's probably not the case, nor do I want to have that opinion about anyone I'd rather be sharing information and ideas with about our favorite rides.

There's a good reason why many other forums either have a designated section for political discussion separate from the on-topic areas or do t allow it at all. I sure wish this one would do one or the other.

That has been brought up many times....

And, also brought up many times, do not open the thread if you do not want to read what is there.  Easy peasey.

MY member # is 5666 which only means I been around these boards along time. A lot has changed and a lot is still the same. When I first joined, the Valkyrie was new. Vendors were in the process of cranking out new products, at one time you could buy custom wheels, widened swingarms, ect. The gearheads in the group were coming up with crafty ideas for both looks and performance. It was a great time for me. I spent all my time on the TECH board where you could learn just about anything you needed to know about the Valkyrie. I have had a Honda factory service manual for my bike since the first year of ownership but I learned so much more on the tech board. Some of these guys are still around ( thanks MarkT, among others) and many have moved on. We are somewhat diminished by their absence and the fact that the original Valkyrie is no more. That's why we need more 1800 Valkyrie participation on the general board in addition to their tech board posts.

Nothing stays the same, we evolve, and it's up to board participants to steer a boards direction with their input. But I can also assure many of you who may not have been around 16 years ago, the general board has always been a hotbed of differing opinions and heated discussions that would make our current discourse seem very tame. Why do we want to or need to shut down conversation?  Maybe some folks here have other outlets with which to discuss politics or plumbing.  I don't. Why is this a bad thing?  Because some don't like it?

Yes it's a motorcycle board, but PEOPLE type out the posts, not the motorcycles.  People have varied interests.  Obviously there are a lot of people with this same interest in common.  Why should these folks with at least 2 things in common not be able to discuss what interests them?
I'm not interested in shutting down conversation on any topic & I am thankful for the varied interest of those that participate here. I jus' feel there should be an "off topic" section for everything not motorcycle related. This is the Valkyrie Riders Cruiser Club, yes? You would think the "General" section would be for motorcycle related topics, wouldn't you?
I'd like to come here & not hafta search for motorcycle related post, new or old.
Heck, I'll gladly go to a separate section that is motorcycle only if we have it.
Someone mentioned the Tech section, think that's really the place for ride reports & trip pics? I don't post 'em there for the same reasons. That's not what the folks there are lookin' for & I won't clutter up the section with a bunch of stuff they neither need nor want.

Now I'll tell ya why it aint gonna happen. Cause it would hafta be "administrated" constantly! Reading every post, everyday, & moving those that don't belong.
Caint say as I blame "the powers that be" either, cause I wouldn't wish that job on my worst enemy, much less the fine folks here I consider family :cooldude:

Couldn't agree more Whiskey. I suggested the same thing a while back and that thread turned into what this one did.  I suspect the same thread will keep popping up.

Every other enthusiast board has an Off Topic board.

But whatever. I just tend to ignore the off topic stuff anyway. Arguing with people on the internet just seems pointless. I'd love to see a post where someone said "you know what, I was wrong, I did pick the wrong religion/view on guns/political party, thanks for pointing me in the right direction."

Easy peasey no doubt ... Thing is you jump through all the hoops to post pictures here with a ride report  and look for some history or like DDT you write up a awesome report and within hours its on page 2 few hours more page 3 etc,etc and all the time and effort is wasted away cause of all the non-stop political bullshit that kick the motorcycle related threads down the line... No one on the internet has ever changed my political views or will they ever fact is only Obama has been able to do that . .. Think of the time it take's DDT to write up his report ( dude is much more talented with words than I ) that's why I try to add some history or facts with pictures and that takes time ... You get a few comments if lucky and its gone but if Clinton or Trump flips the other a bird its on page 1 for days with numerous comments... If I have a bunch of pics like when the Florida group went to Inzane they sent pics back to me as the trip progressed, to post I would put them in photobucket in a folder named Inzane and simply post the link to the folder full of all the phat ladies and goings on.  That way I just post one url.

I'm easy with whatever the administrators do, or if they do nothing at all.  Get rid of politics altogether.  Make General Board m/c related and ride reports only and start another board for all other stuff.  I find that sometimes after reading a ride report -- and I read and enjoy them all -- I don't know what to say other than, "Great report, thanks".  I too have posted a few with pics and rarely get more than a few comments.

Two very strong and excellent opinions/thoughts Joe.   I agree here, a separate board called general Valkyrie, why? First, tec should be kept for wrenching and fix it or fabrication and gen Valkyrie can be rides and show n tell stuff so we keep this stream clean and not polluted. Then I can't get sucked into the political items. And then the gen Valkyrie is not a section that one has to search through to find the good stuff.  Even if there are not a zillion posts/threads at least it is just phat lady positive stuff.

Point two,  I post a lot of pictures here - big time and I do it with an iPad! I do it but it is time consuming and not hard least I be called out here but it is not easy or as easy as it could be. I want to be positive here if at all possible.  I don't know what pain the admin would have to go through to do this I would hope at a minimum that point one is doable??

I'm a new guy but have been on other forums for years. This has been talked about on other forums I have been on.

How many Valk post are there the last 2 weeks? If you have to bump them and bump them to keep them on the front page by a  ":cooldude:" or a "+1", what does that really say?

Why should the non-Valk threads be censored because they make you unhappy? You can't exercise self control and ignore them?

Where does the problem lie?

My 2 cents.

I'll sort out a trip report this evening for those that are interested, thanks everyone all for the good words.

As for the political posts on this board, I don't read them because I don't understand American politics, I avoid British politics as well, but I have just voted to leave the EU.
What I do know is that you Americans are so passionate about your country, you get irate, bicker and argue about it, that, I like.

There's the odd thing I dislike about your way of life, but I'll keep that to myself.

The way I see it with this board, if you don't like the look of a post, don't click on it.

If you've clicked a post and don't like the opening words, click the back button, after all, it's not cost you any money, caused no pain and takes only a second of your time.

Joe, you mention Facebook.  Maybe I have my Facebook set wrong, but things posted there seem to disappear MUCH faster than they do here.  At least here a thread stays together, and easy to find if looking.  FB seems like a post is put up, and then quickly disappears.  Maybe I am doing it wrong?

I ALWAYS go down thru ALL the new posts here.  If it has been a few days since I have been able to get on, I still go thru however many pages that is, and check out all the new posts.  So, even if your ride report is on page three, it will be marked "new", and I DO check it out.

Joe is absolutely right. Good motorcycle posts like DDT's and others posting with a lot of pictures scroll down too quickly. All that work !

It seems to me, though, that the interests is not there like it was when I became member no. 4674.
Yeah, this is a bad time due to politics but we had similar stuff back when, for example Vmax was raising hell on the board.

Maybe Facebook is taking iaway here.

I enjoy all the ride posts, rarely comment on them because I don't know most of the posters. I do comment on photos I find appealing, but not all. Many times I type a comment on the few non m/c  post I read, preview it and then not post it. I  believe that if the m/c related post were separated, they would not be read anymore by this group, nor would they be commented on anymore. Maybe even less. They would stay on page one longer on a separate section, that is it. Like my hero says, "We're Stronger Together"  :roll:whoops

I came here to see gorgeous bikes that can give my ideas about my bike. There are news channels and tv channels and websites for all the other stuff. My everyday is related to the news to some degree but on here I can relax just like when I'm straddling my fat girl and cruising up the road.
The bike seat serves as the counsellors couch for me.

I'm going to say things about this in a positive way  :cooldude:   Having said that I don't understand the comments fully "well if you don't like the thread don't click on it". Yes, we can refrain from doing so, however, we 1500 guys that have an 1800c in our stable have our own board for that why? Why do we have a tec 1500 board? Why do we have a separate classified board? Why do we have regional boards and so on? It simply makes it soooo much easier because it is indexed and we can go to that board and keep things relevant to what the focus is.  Like a file cabinet at work.  I just want that file.

Why is this difficult? Why can't we have a gen 1500 board?

And if we did and there was a new board for that no ones feelers would be hurt.

Am I wrong here.     Look I want to be here not FB.  I enjoy this because it is separate, special.  Separate for me makes it special, separate gen board would only make this place better.

six2go #152

I don't really have a dog in this hunt since I no longer have my Valk but as an outsider(I'm still member #152)it seems to me that the big concern over having an off topic board centers around the fear that the number of posts on the general board will decrease. Well, so what? A post to the forum is a post, no matter where it is.
Maybe those that are so strongly against "sub forums" should take a look at the F6BRiders Forum. We have 10(yes 10) different boards from "General" to "Dark Side" and the dreaded "Off Topic" with several others in between. A couple of them could be married in my opinion to cut it down a bit.
Yeah, 10 Forums sounds like a lot, but it works. Most every member has a pretty good idea where to post about various topics. Every once in a while a moderator will move a post to the appropriate forum, but not often.
With all of those boards in play, the General Board is still the most used, so having an Off Topic doesn't hurt participation at all.
I still like to come here to see what's happening with the group, but it does get a bit tiresome wading through all the crap to find something that interests me. Yes, I know how to "NOT CLICK" on what I don't want to read, but it would be much nicer if it wasn't there in the 1st place but on another board. He!!, I don't even watch the national news on TV.

I agree, it doesn't take rocket science not to click on a certain threads, so if you don't want to take part don't click on it!!  What is the problem, they all have titles, and we can all read, correct.  One thing  I have noticed, some of our more courteous members, in the title they put notations in the title like,"Non Valk" or "Political" as a courtesy to others of its content.

most of those advocating separate forums for non motorcycle stuff have no clue as to the time it takes to administrate this stuff. Having been an admin way back on another forum i know.
No one pays any fees here and its totally a gift of time from the admins, and it does take time.
Just because you do not like something you think they should make changes just to suit you. All from their free time eh?
They have a thankless job. And how is advocating more and separate forums going to make it better?
This board caters to the masses of valkyrie riders , not individuals. That's what's great about it.
That's just my opinion.

Is this odd thing how we admire our guns?

Absolutely not, I wish I had a gun, I wish the UK would make them legal, I would have the biggest badass gun I could afford.
If I was rich I would have a 50 cal sniper rifle strapped to my Valk.

There would be the same number of threads overall.  I don't understand why 1 subforum with 1000 threads is any easier than 2 subforums with 500 threads each. Not one second more work for anyone.

Let's say you own a book store.

Your book store specialized on books on History.   Everyone who has an interest in Historical books comes there. All the best and brightest History teachers and professors come there, as do casual History buffs. Everyone gets to know each other, it becomes like a family.

There are subsections in this book store. WWI history. WWII history. American history. There's even a small Canadian history area, but there are few books in it.  ;D

Amongst all the historical books, there are cookbooks everywhere. For every book about History, there is a cookbook. People come there for the History books.  Sure there is the odd guy who likes History that likes cookbooks.   However, most just want to read about History. Yes, everyone eats and cookbooks kinda apply to them, but that's not why they are there. There are places that sell cookbooks. If they wanted to look for them, they'd go there.

There are even people who the History lovers are pretty sure don't even have an interest in History. They walk in the door and scream out recipes at the top of their lungs.  For some reason these people's affliction gets worse every 4 years. They're in there all day throwin around cookbooks and screaming out recipes. It annoys the people who want to read about history.

So someone asks the owner...could you not have a cookbook section, preferably with walls so we don't have to listen to the cookbook lovers and have to go through all their books? It's still the same number of books overall for you to catalog, it won't be any more work for you.  Sure it takes a couple minutes to build the walls, but it will actually be easier once it's done.  You already have subsections for the different eras of history.  It will just be easier for your customers to find what they want. The ones who are only casual history buffs and like to look at cookbooks will be happy. The History buffs who just came to the History books store for History books will be much more happy.

Or customers can just go buy History books online, where its easier to find what you want. And there's more pictures in the online books, everyone loves pictures.  But it doesn't have the feel of the nice old bookstore.
