I recall seeing a Mod for the IS trunk running lights which converted them to Running/Brake lights. I have searched in all of the places I know with no luck.   Anyone have a link to a write up??

I did this on my Standard when I added the Interstate trunk. While I didn't create a write up, it's fairly easy. I simply used a powered trailer light converter (Hopkins 46365 Short Proof Power Converter) that I picked up off of Amazon.com
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002Q804K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also added a trailer hitch when I added the trunk, so I split the trailer connector leads, and wired the trunk lights, but if you don't have a hitch, simply run the trailer leads to the trunk.

Here's a thread to look at.  The Red Barber (and Grumpy/Bill) interstate trunk LED conversion how-to (with lots of pics) link is no longer working.

I also seem to recall Bon S of the SmartSwitch, was converting folks trunk lights.  http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,94242.0.html

Had BonS do the L E D light conversion on my I/S. No way shape or form am I sorry I did this. The sheer DIFFERENCE of the light output both running and brake IS astounding. Lotsa the folks I ride P G R with had nothing but GOOD comments on my new lighting. Cage gitz too close on the highway I just tap the hand or the foot brake and they see how cursed bright the lights are they do back off-most of the time!  Roll Eyes A shout out to BonS and the Excellent work he put out.  cooldude HIGHLY recommended.  coolsmiley  RIDE SAFE.

From Mark T's write up... This is part of what I am looking for. I just want 4 Brake lights..

"Seperate the left and right pairs of lights in the trunk, brake circuit only.
NOTE:  The diagram indicates all lights in back are dual filiment.  Actually only two are 1157-type bulbs, with the other two being single filiment, I believe running lights.  You will have to change the sockets and bulbs of the single filiment pair if you want all four to be brake & turn lights.  Otherwise this diagram applies to the two 1157 sockets, not the other two."

As  Mark T says the sockets are 1157 Type in that they are dual filament. The actual Bulb is a Honda part as is the socket.

I am hoping that someone has used the Honda part  and written up if it is just plug and play or is cutting of the trunk needed?

SOCKET
Part Number: 33720-MBY-003    $19.54

BULB (12V 21/5W ECE)
Part Number: 34906-MBB-611    $ 3.18

The inner lights are single filament. Outers are dual, and the sockets are slightly larger. You have to modify the inner housing (where the socket fits into) in order to get the dual filament sockets to work.

Take one of your light assemblies out of the trunk, remove the sockets from the housings and what you need to do will become readily apparent.

cooldude cooldude  On the Bon S job. Need sunglasses if following too close. No excuse for a " I didn't see ya moment". May or may not be a solution with his retirement.

Interstate trunk lights are no longer available from Honda and are hard to locate in nice used condition. For this reason I wanted to keep my light fixtures unmolested, so I put in 48 cluster LEDs in all my run, brake and turn fixtures; which have a very long service life and are extremely bright. The LED process can be reversed at any time, returning to OEM condition.

Dat's what I was looking for

"FOR VERSION #4: Purchase item #2 from the dealer plus item #11. Dremel out the old hole for the small socket in the small lamp and insert the large socket from your new #2 and cut and splice as shown in #4 (the double filament new socket) drawing above.

As close as I'm gonna get to a "how to".

Thanks for pointing that out..

It was a mod I was wanting to do, until BonS did the LED rear light conversion. Brighter is better, and I have more $ sometimes than time to do what I want.
