After not riding since late November or early December (I can't even remember  uglystupid2) I finally rode to work this morning.  It was a bit chilly in the upper 30's on the way in, but supposed to be in low 60's this afternoon.  I'm hoping this is the start of a trend!  cooldude

I was 3 out of 5 last week, but I was off Friday and rode to Rayne, LA for a ham radio swap meet.  About 175 miles one way.  Spent the night and rode back the next day.  Absolutely a great couple of days on the bike!

Last night my wife picked me up after work so we could have dinner. She dropped me by the bike so I could ride home. I forgot my jacket in the back seat of the Volvo but rode home without it. It was brisk bet it felt good.

This morning I was riding to work, slowly, behind a tractor down a country road. I could see my breath. I didn't expect the short sleeve weather last night to become 28 degrees this morning.

Ride to work, work to ride.

The thermometer touched 80F today in east Kansas.

Anyone who went to work and didn't ride is at risk of having his or her motorcycle endorsement rescinded.

It touched 61 here in Boston, looks like I can keep my endorsement for another day or two. Have you noticed that when they send the street sweepers out to clean up the sand, they make it worse, spreading it from the roadside into the travel lane, a thin coating that shows up just as you're going into a corner? Managed to come back up from the slide twice. So far so good!

Well, it was 38 deg when I left for work yesterday morning, so the gerbings were nice.  But today it was in the 50's at 6am...no gerbings required. cooldude

Overall it has been a nice week. In fact it has been much too nice to go to work. I went anyway.

The weather man predicted rain but I knew it wouldn't rain this week. We planted flowers in the yard last weekend and that usually stops the rain until the plants die. I did slosh water on my boots this morning trying to carry water up the hill to the yellow bell bushes in hopes that my watering would stimulate the rain. The cosmic foot drops that way sometimes.

Instead I had wet boots and a sunny 65 degree ride to work. Oh well. I'll take what I can get. I left an hour early for work and took the long way today. I also slipped out for a lunch ride. Overall it was a good day.

Some days are pretty enough to make me slip away. Work itself is going fine. I'm trying to line up work for the Fall in case this falls through. I've had to be managerial recently, but overall I can't complain because they keep paying me.

Work to ride, ride to work.

65 degrees. Why am I still at work? The sunshine looks nice out there.

Bad news: the campus police cannot void my parking ticket despite the fact that the chief wants to do so. He has been told to stop doing that by the power that be. He agrees that they don't offer a parking pass for motorcycles so the tickets shouldn't accrue. I've appealed.

Good news: The parking spot that isn't a parking spot where I often park is going to be repainted as motorcycle parking for me. That'll keep down future parking tickets.

38 degrees and rainy this morning when I rode in. The rain is supposed to be slow and steady all day. My wife tells me this is dogwood winter. She might be right. The yellow bell blooms have been rained off but the dogwoods are bigger and bigger.

Commute to ride, ride to commute (and try to stay dry).

Willow... My hat is off to you...

They're having a motorcycle show at work today (Even flew in the cranky old guy from American Choppers for it) and requested anyone with a bike show up on it. Well... Seeing as I have some.... not exactly politically correct statements on my windshield, and also seeing as I like being employed, I took the windshield off for today.

Thirty miles in the low 50's in light drizzle was not the most pleasant ride I've ever taken!

But, a ride is a ride! And even though I spent a lotta time cleaning my Valk last night for the company bike show, it's still the dirtiest bike here, but... It's also got the most miles on it by FAR.

Pulling a t-shirt down over the windshield would have been another way to handle that. After you rode in with full visibility and a little rain deflection, you could have pulled a VRCC t-shirt down over the windshield to make it more work friendly.

Perhaps a t-shirt that says, "Commute to ride, ride to commute," would have been catchy.

Seems the "bike show" was more of a "Everyone bring your bikes in so there's some good background for the photographer" instead of a bike show, not that my "It's not a rat bike, but it's heading in that direction" Valkyrie woulda stood a chance to win anyway... And yeah, I am SO looking forward to getting outta here on Friday, I'll see ya'll in Athens!

I considered different ways of covering it up, but to be honest after not taking the windshield off for many MANY years I needed a reminder of what it was like without one... Wow... Wink

Sure it was 30 degrees but it was a sunny 30 degrees. Now the sun is out and it looks nice out there. Unfortunately, the pretty weather ends today while I'm at work. The rest of the week is supposed to be cold and rainy. Oh well. I'll ride what I have to ride.

Rode to oooooooooooops...I don't work, but did ride..hehe...got in 160 miles on my new fork seals...no oil dripping.....

Went south out of Moses Lake, taking the back road to Mardon Resort, then on to Othello (about 12 miles of real good twisties), headed west out of Othello to Vantage and the Columbia River Gorge. Stopped at the local tourist attraction for a couple of pics, then on home to Moses Lake....turned out to be a beautiful day for a ride...

Just up the hill from the resort.

Into the twisties!!!

At Vantage overlook (wild horse monument)

YES!! Thought I was the only crazy one!! Rode twice this week, 38° and 42° in the morning, on the way home. And, thought it was warm, JUST because I was on the bike. Of course, I was dressed nicely for it, but the hands still got a little chilly. It's 51° now, and supposed to be 48° when I leave for work, in an hour, and 39° tomorrow morning on the way home...BUT, at least I'm on two wheels (and 37 mpg), instead of 4 (and 15 mpg!!!).

Although I admit, I have NEVER liked any fairings, since my '79 CB750F, 25 years ago, but they are looking better and better, the batwing type. I might try those "wings" that cover just the hands, since I have the windscreen. Wonder if they have a set that is readily removable??

Ride on!

Since I turned my ankle on Saturday, Sunday was a no-ride day. I mostly watched movies and tried to take it easy. My wife was concerned about me riding in this morning, but I figured the rear brake was easier to hit without moving my ankle than the accelerator in the car.  Luckily today my foot would bend enough to wear the  boot. I'm almost starting to feel old.

I'm still trying to be a good employee.

The president sent me an email saying my position, a temporary full time position, is being stopped. The good news is that a full time permanent position is being put in its place. Although, I'll now have to apply for the job that I'm already doing. On I ride like a good worker bee.

Ride to work, work to ride.
